I went to a beautiful wedding for a close friend this summer. It was set in a vintage barn that is now transformed to host parties, weddings, corporate events, and other events. They decorated the place beautifully! I was sitting there with my husband, waiting for the wedding to begin when I heard the guests behind us start discussing their wedding gift. One couple they were talking to followed the gift registry and purchased a bedding set for the couple. I could not believe my ears when I heard what the other person got for the happy couple: A card with $5 in lottery tickets. I had to resist looking at my husband in shock. Actually, he probably wasn't even listening at the time, because when I told him about it at the reception he had no idea what I was talking about. The reception for this unique wedding was amazing! They had a huge tent outside of the barn where they put a wood dance floor and some tables for the guests. I loved that the wedding dj played while dinner was taking place. There was nice soft music playing. After dinner, they turned it up and got everyone dancing. While I was dancing with my husband, I asked what he would think of lottery tickets as a wedding gift. It didn't bother him much so I kind of let it go. It just gave me something to think about.
I don't know... maybe I shouldn't be so critical. I mean maybe that couple couldn't afford an appropriate gift and was hoping the lottery tickets would turn into a bigger gift if the newlyweds were to win on the tickets.
What do you think about giving lottery tickets as a wedding gift? Would you do it? How would you feel if that were a gift given to you?
I love weddings! They celebrate the love of a man and a woman as they promise to love each other forever. We will ignore the 50% divorce rate in this fantasy. Picking out the gift is one of the most fun parts of the occasion for me. There is a right way and a wrong way to go about getting a wedding gift for the bride and groom. We'll take a look at different options throughout this blog. Hopefully this will make your next wedding gift purchase a little easier to pick out.
