i only need 15-20 invitations. all i can seem to find is a minimum of 25. thanks in advance!

Apart from suggesting that you order your wedding invitations as far in advance of your wedding as possible, so that you have less to worry about as your wedding day gets closer, there are a number of factors to consider when identifying how long in advance you need to order your wedding invitations.

Firstly, you need to be aware that you need to post your wedding invitations a minimum of 6 weeks before your wedding date. If your wedding is being hosted on a holiday weekend you should send your invitations at least 8 weeks in advance, or if you are inviting guests from abroad, you should give 8-10 weeks’ notice. If you have a number of guests travelling from overseas, you might consider sending them Save the Date Cards when you have confirmed your wedding date, so that they can make travel arrangements.

You will then need to establish the lead-time of your favourite suppliers. Some companies can supply invitations within a couple of weeks, with more specialised suppliers requiring 2-3 months notice, prior to your required delivery date. You do not want to leave yourself in a position where you have to compromise on your ideal wedding invitations because you didn’t plan ahead. I would suggest that you do some research in respect of wedding stationery suppliers during the early stages of your wedding planning. You don’t need to place the order until you are ready but you will at least then know what your order deadline will be.

You should also consider how much time it will take you to write your invitations and address your envelopes.  If you have all the information gathered before you begin (highly recommended), you may be able to complete this task in a day or two. Be aware of your own schedule. If you are extremely busy and you will only have an hour or two at a time to spend writing and addressing your invitations, you will need to make sure that you have received delivery of your invitations, well in advance. In the event that you are hiring a calligrapher to write your wedding invitations, again you should check how long it will take them to write your invitations.

Remember that your wedding invitations will announce your wedding to your family and close friends and you don’t want to rush the selection, ordering or personalisation processes. You will probably need to receive your wedding invitations 2-3 months in advance of your wedding date to allow enough time to write your invitations and to post them to your guests.

If you add the order lead-time of your preferred wedding invitation supplier to this timeframe, you will know exactly how long in advance of your wedding day that you will need to order your wedding invitations.
